Tai Chi

Learn the basic elements of tai chi chuan, posture and how to move gently, slowly and with attention. Often as a result of such "moving meditation," people find peace and relaxation, more awareness and grace. Students of tai chi often begin to experience more stability and agility while improving their strength, flexibility and balance. Some of tai chi's well-known benefits include lowering stress and blood pressure while raising energy and well-being. Perhaps lesser known is that the regular practice of tai chi has been proven to improve the following: osteoarthritis (knees, most specifically), immunity, sleep, and, most recently, fibromyalgia. Its soft and gentle movements make it suitable for people of all ages! This class can be done standing or sitting in a chair.

Beginner's Series

At OYBC, we make a special effort to welcome new students to the classical study of Yoga. Many students start with our 6-Class beginner series. These classes provide a slower paced program with more description and commentary accompanying each asana or posture. Breath awareness and relaxation also are introduced. Our Beginner Series moves at a gentle pace, introducing all the basic postures or asanas as well as the different aspects of the practice each week. We remind students that the Beginner Series is considered a workshop and so it is not available for a drop in rate. All students receive a copy of Center Director, Susi Amendola's "Heart of Yoga" CD to continue their practice at home
